Exhibition | William R. Hollingsworth, Jr.: Sketches and Drawings

Every exhibit has a story to tell. Sometimes the story is informative, sometimes emotional, and at other times, the story is completely visual. This exhibit combines several personal stories that give us insight into the life of William R. Hollingsworth, Jr. While the Mississippi artist lived only until the age of 34, he is considered one of the state’s most important early 20th century artists. Lauren Rogers Museum of Art has hosted six one-person exhibitions of the artist’s work with the first occurring during his lifetime.

This exhibition of works on paper features works that were recently given by Laurel native Hunter McKelva Cole along with works purchased by the Museum from the artist’s widow in 1966. Mr. Cole has shared many memories of his appreciation of the artist and his friendship with the artist’s widow, Jane Hollingsworth. This gift is a worthy addition to the Museum’s collection of Mississippi artists.

This exhibition was generously sponsored by Gilchrist Sumrall Yoder & Boon, PLLC.
