A Brief Biography…

Brenda Yvette Twyner Thordarson is the daughter of the late Omi Ruth (Boston) and Olger Cornelius Twyner Jr. She was born in Laurel, Ms in 1953 at the Jones County Community Hospital (currently the South Central Regional Medical Center).

Mrs. Thordarson grew up on the corner of Joe Wheeler Ave and East 12th Street. She attended Nora Davis and Idella Washington schools, as well as Oak Park High School, where her mother, aunts and uncles also had attended and where her mother had taught for many years. In the spring of 1971, she graduated from R. H. Watkins (now Laurel High) and went on to graduate from Millsaps College in the Spring of 1975, with double degrees in piano performance and music education.

In the fall of 1975 Mrs. Thordarson began studying for her master’s degree in piano performance at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. After a long hiatus during which she was pleased to have raised into adulthood, along side her husband, Paul Theodore Thordarson, five wonderful children, she was able to return to the Conservatory in the fall of 2017 and complete her degree requirements. She graduated in May, 2019.
