3D Expression

Lower Level Galleries

August 23 – November 13, 2022

3D Expression offers an intriguing glimpse into a new dimension of art quilts, creatively interpreted by artists from 14 US states and 10 countries. The wide variety of pieces include vessels, wearables, wall-pieces, and sculptural artworks that show how textile art can come off the wall and expand both into the third dimension and into the future. The exhibition is curated by Bruce Hoffman and organized by Studio Art Quilt Associates.

3D EXPRESSIONS GALLERY TALK & RECEPTION
Thursday, September 1
5:30pm – Gallery Talk with Susan Lenz
6:30 – 7:30pm – Reception

Susan Lenz, whose work Saint Anastasia is included in the exhibition, will present “Seeing Beyond Two Dimensions.” She will discuss how layers of fabric already suggest three dimensions, and how contemporary art quilters are taking advantage of the fact that their very materials can so easily be manipulated into three-dimensional expressions. Her presentation will include information about how she produced Saint Anastasia, and she will talk about other works in the exhibition, as well.
